Honestly, I don't care for politics but the campaigning for Presidential primaries has been very interesting. But I have to tell you, I was so sick of the racial slights between Clinton's and Obama's Democratic camp! I was so happy when I woke up this morning to hear a truce was called between the two on racial issues. Yes, I know it happened on TV during the debate but I fell asleep and missed it! oops!
Now, maybe we can get to the good stuff...let them talk about each other for other stuff that won't cause riots! You know, healthcare, education, global warming, etc... Well, I take that back maybe everything has the potential to cause riots but not like race talk does. Maybe, Hillary will cry again. Now, that would be good TV! (I'm probably going to get lots of hate email for that comment huh?...LOL, just jokes)

I can't take another 10 months of this sh*tty presidential race.
Amen to the truce on race issues - what a waste of time that is.
Apparently, leaving long, controversial comments on other people's blogs is a new thing I do lately. I think it has to do with going completely insane waiting for a referral and liking the distractions. Sorry. So, here are my thoughts:
Bill Clinton says Obama's stance on the Iraq war is a "fairy tale" and the media and general public freak out saying Clinton said Obama's bid to be president is a fairy tale because he's black. What? BET's Bob Johnson says Obama was doing "something in the neighborhood," clearly referring to drugs, and this is immediately characterized as a "racial" comment.
I can see how Clinton's "It took a president to start to realize MLK's dream by passing the Civil Rights Act" (paraphrasing)quote could be construed as a slight to MLK. I get that. But I also get the substance of the statement, that a president needs to be inolved to advance a civil rights agenda and actually pass legislation.
I was a bit baffled by the controversy and amount of coverage that all of the "racial" comments got. I wish the time were spent covering thier proposed solutions to racial disparity in income, incarceration rate, dropout rate, etc... instead.
There is so much racial injustice and institutionalized racism in this country that the media seems to deliberately avoid covering, in my opinion, and the average Fox news viewer isn't particularly interested in hearing about. So many issues where race IS or should be the actual focal point of the story, ignored.
I am totally dismayed by the supporters/followers of the candidates who try so hard to racialize and sensationalize out of context sound-bytes. I don't think Clinton or Obama themselves have been slighting, insulting, or attacking eachother based on race, so I don't have a lot of faith in a truce. Which, by the way, I missed too.
Katy, I totally agree, I don't think this truce is really going to matter but it is a nice thought. As long as there is a black man and a white woman running for President there will continue to be racial and gender based comments made...by someone associated with their camp(s).
I love US politics - soooo much more entertaining than Canadian.
I missed most of the so-called racial slights that were being tossed back and forth, so I can't comment on them.
I will just say that I like both candidates, but maybe I would prefer to see Hillary win because I worry about Barack being assassinated by some hood-wearing arsehole.
Whats even more scary? I recently read a statistic that said only 33% of eligable US voters actually vote. Only 33%! And then NBC (who is owned by GE) arbitrarily decides not to allow Kucinich to be in the debate? So pretty much the huge companies (that are profitting quite nicely from the current occupation of Iraq) are going to decide who we will have for our next president. And who ever actually does get into that seat is going to be sitting in a really big pile of sh*t, courtesy of Mr. Bush.
